Finally seeing the light of day, Melodic unleash the 'Hot Milk' remix EP after a staggering 18 months since Baikonour's original 'Bake Your Tape' EP was released. Better late than never, but with tunes so outstandingly good you'd be a fool to complain.
Label mate Topo Gigio takes a psychedelic tip while keeping to the original Kraut orientated tune, awash with hallucinogenic twinges & backwards loops. Imitation Electronic Piano possess an adorable naivety & child's play approach to their tinkering. It's more a band just having fun than remixing, with the recording sounding like a live jam with xylophones, harpsichord & guitars.
Amon Tobin's 'Bhangratronic Mix' is exactly what you'd imagine from the superstar; a mashed Eastern tinged speaker-blower of warped bass and big, BIG beats. Intense drums and a fierce use of rhythm, it's a possible floor-filler anthem of the year, hand's down.
But it's unmistakably Gavouna who produces the most radically reworked number, taking an Italo-Disco route with a love of Moroder clearly evident. It's exactly what a tune should be - insanely hypnotic, bassy, percussive & not forgetting a use of strings & occasional synths. Comparisons are difficult & few contemporary artists make music as intriguing.
Four completely diverse tracks without the usual 'remix-by-numbers' approach most take. A totally new and essential EP in its own right, which bares no obvious similarities to the original release - go on treat your ears, you've been good lately.
