When offstage antics and out-of-the studio behaviour begins to overshadow a band's recorded output, rest assured they no longer have any relevance musically.
So did the group record a succesful second album? Quite frankly no. Besides the token Nirvana tracks and the predictable trippy, stoner 60's psychedelics, 'Winning Days' offers nothing new as such, only a rehashed parody of their debut. A vile combination of stale production and of course, over-blown egos has certainly had a negative impact.
Only a handful of songs should have made the final cut, with the rest sounding hastily written. Sadly, they aren't the seminal band they appear to think they are, and a legendary status has never looked so distant.
With an unlimited choice of garage acts readily available, second rate trash like this doesn't deserve or live up to the high profile publicity that surrounds the band. A half-complete, half-arsed effort should never have surfaced, maybe this will be the wake-up call they desperately need?
