Film scores, Kraut, hip-hop, electronica - you name it, it's included. But what's so inspiring about the Melodic ethos is their genuine appreciation & showcasing of quality music, whether it be on their own label or not. Hence the inclusion of 7 non-Melodic individuals.
From the beat heavy Audiowhore to the stripped, melancholic piano beauty of Micah P. Hinson there isn't a bad word or single fault to be said, with the different styles comfortably sitting side-by side with ease. Even with such computer orientated genres & sampled based material, the mood has a typically organic, humanised feel.
Most surprising star of the show is the mighty Gavouna, whose instrumental 'Three' is a hypnotic display of xylophones awash with violins & percussion. It's nowhere near the sketchy sound experiments that made up his debut and marks a promising development in sound - an album cannot come soon enough.
Superb new tracks courtesy of Pedro, Lucky Pierre, Baikonour and Topo Gigio suggest a fruitful and interesting future for the label, one that's sure to establish Melodic even further as the country's most consistently outstanding.
With more excellent tracks than you've had hot dinners, 'Tracks for Horses' is cheap at twice the price - undoubtedly this year's finest compilation and all for £5. Fantastic!
