Beans - Now Soon Someday
[Warp]

After the release of his not so stand-out solo album 'Tomorrow Right Now' in February 2003 Beans hit the road, and he hasn’t really stopped since. So this new 9 track mini album comes as a nice surprise, firstly because it features 6 fresh tracks and three exclusive remixes courtesy of Prefuse 73 and EL-P and secondly, because its pretty awesome stuff!

These new tracks emphasise Beans crisp lyrical delivery and obvious writing talents, which weren’t missing from his debut album they just got lost somewhere in the grooves. Thus 'Now Soon Someday' steps things up a level, taking the music deeper which helps the record to command maximum attention.

Album opener 'Structure Tone' delivers a tight and punctured sound that swirls around and almost out of sight. While Stand out tracks 'Win Or Loose You Loose' which just gets into your mind and under your skin pure and simple and 'Composition In Void', which is as funky as anything you’ll hear in 2004, demonstrate a more mature and all-round sound.

This release is topped off thanks to the fine touches of Prefuse 73 & EL-P, the latter throwing 'Mutescreamer' into the mangle and churning out a dark infectious number while Prefuse tinkers with 'Phreak The Beat' (original version on 'Tomorrow Right Now') & 'Mutescreamer', hauling both tracks into his own territory. Turning 'Phreak The Beat' into a jingly & rather humorous number, while retaining the essential elements & dropping 'Mutescreamer' in somewhere between hip-hop & an unknown genre.

While the debate still rolls on as to what Beans is all about, is he electronica, hip hop or just Beans? Lets just say he's all three, which pretty much does him justice. This album pushes all the right buttons and sets the touch paper alight for future output.
