Nitzer Ebb, Colchester and Mute's very own Industrial rock specialists, find themselves going through the mangle for a third time around with this double A side release, again commissioned by NovaMute.
Previous face-lifts have been given to their tracks by none other than Derrick May and The Hacker, and Mute will themselves be putting out a retrospective album of Nitzer Ebb's work sometime in the spring. This release however, is where interests lie for now, with the knobs being twiddled and the buttons being pushed by DJ Phil Kieran and LFO (Mark Bell).
'Murderous' is first to get reworked and it comes from the hands of Kieran. The track is given a full techno overhaul which proves to be a blistering journey from start to finish, with the vocal being stripped down and used to maximum effective, the whole rhythm of the track just hammers away relentlessly.
Flip the disc and you'll find LFO's remix of 'Control I'm Here', which originally dates from sometime in 1988. This side drops the tempo but only slightly, as Bell heads for a more electro approach that packs one hell of a punch! This remix is just brilliant work, with the track darting all over the place, giving it a sinister and dark feel. The high-hats are in the right place, the synth lines never stop working and the track just keeps on rolling.
Both remixes on this 12" do their jobs and then some, capable of raising roofs and smiles across the board.
