A tasty four track Vinyl only sampler for the forthcoming 'Horses'
compilation, following on very nicely from last year's 'Room Full Of
Tuneful' collection. Two Melodic artists and two new comers top off this
delicious slab of heavyweight wax.
Manna Record's Notes opens with a smart old school outing - not something
you'd expect from Melodic at all. Part Jurassic 5 with the goofy highlights
of '3 Feet High & Rising' thrown in for a refreshing insight into good old
fashioned hip-hop. What with the recent Pedro / Shock material, they are
only a year away from being the UK's leading hip-hop/garage/r'n'b label.
Comedy tune of the year goes to Audiowhore, hands down for the use of
hilarious samples. Every cheesy 70's game show has been cut up and looped
here, while the distorted drums are post Skint before ending in a kind of
Jolly Roger drum 'n' bass pirate tune. Killer. Forget the debut EP, the
Psapp tracks is pretty damn smart. More kitschy samples and uptempo drums
are fused with off-kilter synths and chopped up piano riffs. The end product
is really colourful and bubbly, eat your heart out Lemon Jelly.
Lucky Pierre never fails to please, which is why 'Fan Dance' is one of the
most delightful songs of the year. Lovingly crafted from gorgeous orchestra
samples, pianos and hard drum beats - the contrast of the harsh with the
beautiful that Melodic artists are so good at creating. Ambience has never
sounded so dreamy, well done Mr Moffatt.
Four joyous tracks of fun and diversity, great stuff from the UK's finest
label. Invest now.
