Remix heaven! Spread over two different vinyl formats, we get no less than
two remixes by the man himself and a stupidly long 23 minute live version.
Some would argue Hebden has run out of fresh new material, but those into
the Tetster will realise his previous ability to re-invent a tune.
The A-side, one of the stronger tracks from the 'Rounds' album is Fridge
influenced in parts. Occasionally post rock with it's chugging, droning
guitars, killer bassline and Hebden's own blend of electronica and phat
beats. But compared to some of his back catalogue, it is fairly refrained
and lacking some serious impact - a bit too chart orientated.
'Remix 2' takes a familiar jazz route, the bassline flipped slightly and met
with rusty trumpet samples. It's tracks like this which confirm Hebden's
obsession to be in a live jazz band. Midway, it breaks out into a true
improvised style, hits and splashes all-over the show, nice result. It's not
too dissimilar from the original and when considering this is a remix of his
own track, he could have gone totally overboard with experimentation.
The live version is just anal and pointless. Aside the fact the first ten
minutes is nothing more than the original virtually untouched, it's
seriously uninspiring. Ending in a couple of minutes of feedback and a
quirky interlude of his 'Pause' album.
Not one of his shining moments, may chart well though.
