Themselves - No Music Of Aiffs
[Anticon]

Anticon surrealists Themselves rope in a ton of top-name producers and
artists to remix the masterpiece that was 'The No Music'. Names making an
appearance include: The Notwist, Alias, Electric Birds, Fog, Hood,
Hrvatsaki, Why?, Odd Nosdam and of course by Themselves.

With such an eclectic roster, the overall feel to the album is highly
diverse, yet still manages to flow perfectly. The most appealing remix is by
old collaborators Hood who insist on mashing up the original with ridiculous
amounts of feedback & noise. Vocals are twisted and reversed into a
collection of absolute nonsense. Mind blowing drums on this track and
definitely the most most original remix of the release.

Grape Dope takes his track on a proper ragga tip, it's fairground hip-hop
with the faintest hints of Dub basslines and cut-up electronics. While
Notwist's mix is a fairly dreamy, post-rock number with a stripped down,
acoustic vibe. Reminiscent of mogwai's 'Rock Action', there's distorted
robotic vocals, a faint hypnotic guitar riff and slow live drums. Gorgeous.

Fog's offering sounds like most of the Tigerbeat '$ series' tracks, what
with static hip-hop drums, mechanical sounds and a sampled vocal, it's the
perfect bootleg track. Glitch heaven indeed. Most of the other tracks are
familiar hip-hop styles, Odd's could easily be anything he's produced for
Anticon before, Themselves sound like..Themselves and Hrvatsaki comes across
like an early DJ Shadow.

With so many top names, it's hardly surprising this is such a fun album full
of interesting twists and turns. No matter what your flavour is, there's
sure to be something on here that gets you going. When will Anticon have a
bad release?
