Spiritualized - Amazing Grace EP3
[Sanctuary]

You know the score by now, this is the third and final instalment of the Amazing Grace series, only three tracks on this copy however. Why they released this as an EP collection is strange seeing as the whole album itself is released on Vinyl as well as CD. The lead track 'She Kissed Me' is the long lost brother of those wild, rock 'n' roll moments of 'Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space' and truly sees Spiritualized returning to form. Honky-tonk pianos, tons of dirty feedback and distorted vocals lead the way in this mighty infectious track. Ending in one of those improvised jams we love Spiritualized so much for, surprisingly it only clocks in at a tiny four minutes, blimey.

Track two, 'This Little Life Of Mine' sounds more like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club trying to be Spacemen 3 than Pierce and friends actually sounding like his former band. Such a poor song, far too drenched in distortion and too many FX pedals in overdrive. What's really lacking is a decent melody or anything that resembles a tune. The vocals are also shameful, Jason Pierce trying to sound drug damaged, when let's be honest, he left that image years ago. 'Ballad Of Richie Lee' is the token slow number with small traces of an orchestra seeping in, it's no 'Broken Heart' and shows how little impact the songs have without the backing of a full Gospel choir. No different from EP1 or 2, only the album shall tell if these tracks work better together as a whole.
