Andy Votel - Music To Make Girls Cry
[Fat City]

Super fresh mix from Votel that clocks in at a whopping 80 minutes, Music To Make Girls Cry is a great showcase for exactly where Votel's head is. Where this differs from other mix albums, such as 'Product Placement' by DJ Shadow, is the eclectic roster of artists and styles.

Across the mix we get everything from French Pop, Dub, French Library Music, Polish Jazz, Film Soundtracks, 60's Pop, Funk and a lot of Psyche vinyl! The contrasting genres blend effortlessly with a great smoothness, Votel's ability to mix cracking drum breaks is the key to his success, it's great and damn funky too! With such a massive vinyl collection and wide taste in music, this is what Votel's own disappointing 'Styles Of The Unexpected' mini album should have sounded like.

So many tunes are crammed in, you'll never tire. Some real rarities and oddities are stashed away, there's no chance you'll have heard most of them before. Names dropped into the mix include: Serge Gainsbourg, The Monks, Nino Ferrer, Komeda and a track from Badly Drawn Boy's EP1.

Genuinely great tunes, nothing pretentious here. Was originally strictly limited to Promo CDs only, but Fat City have done the generous thing in giving it an official release with brand spanking new artwork, delightfully tasty!
