On paper it sounds disgusting - sampled synths meet random bursts of machinery.
Fortunately, new Melodic signing Gavouna is on to a real winner here as lush orchestral melodies contrast with harsh noise. Intricate piano pieces are fused with pots 'n' pans percussion creating something truly special.
Most of the tracks clock in around the 1-2 minute mark in which time Gavouna has covered approximately 5 genres of music. Everyday sounds are stuck into a blender, then mashed up some more - only then are you halfway to understanding what this sounds like.
Standout tracks are the more upbeat 'Stick Trick' and 'Dirt Laque', as layers are built by handclaps and fingerclicks whilst random strings and feedback are cut up then spat back out. Never has the fusion of piano, electronica and classical music ever sounded so inspiring.
A real kaleidoscope of musical genres. Definitely someone to keep your eye on.
8/10
