Avril Lavigne has earnt $1 million in the last twelve months from just one video being shown on YouTube, it has emerged.
During the last year, the promo clip for the pop-punk singer's 'Girlfriend' single has had over 100 million views. The revenue was generated from adverts that are displayed each time a fan watched the video.
Speaking of this method, Terry McBride (CEO of Nettwerk Management) told MusicTank that Avril Lavigne's case proved how technology can benefit the music industry - if they chose to embrace it.
"You'd see a huge shift. We haven't even given kids the choice to show us this tipping point yet... the profit margin in the digital space is about 300% that inside the physical space."
