Warner To Drop DRM Protected Songs In The US

The Warner Music Group is to drop DRM protection on their back catalogue in the US.

Tracks will now be sold via Amazon's online download store and this will mean consumers who purchase music, will be able to share or burn songs more easily. Some current downloads are protected to prevent this.

The move follows other major labels who have also introduced DRM-free downloads, leaving SonyBMG as the only major to not sign up with Amazon's new shop.

Chief executive of Warners Edgar Bronfman, said the DRM-free downloads would "bring an energy-sapping debate to a close".
