The National Musical Publishers Association is hoping to sue YouTube after claiming the hugely popular video sharing site is in breach of copyright laws.
The group, along with other businesses that includes Viacom and Nickelodeon, say some songwriters are not being paid for the use of their music on the website.
Speaking to BBC News, David Israelite - the Chief executive of the National Musical Publishers Association - said the group were joining the case "to protect the interests of music publishers and songwriters, whose creative works are being used without permission or compensation by YouTube."
YouTube has quickly become one of the most popular sites online and many bands have actually embraced it to premier their new promo videos, as well as hold contests where fans are asked to make their own videos for singles.
