U2 Planning To Release Another Album In 2009

U2 release their new album this week, but the band are already planning to record and deliver another LP before the year ends.

Frontman Bono described the new album as a "companion" piece to 12th studio record 'No Line On The Horizon', and told the New York Times it would take a "more meditative and processional tone".

U2 were also asked by the paper if they would consider alternative release methods for the untitled album, as Radiohead did with In Rainbows.

Guitarist The Edge replied: "My instinct is to stick with the record guys. They have to sell your records or sell the downloads, whatever it ends up being."

"To do that, first of all you've got to love and understand the music, and right now I'm not seeing any group that rivals the record labels on that front."

Bono then added: "I'm interested in commerce. The excuse for bigness is that songs demand to be heard if they're any good. And without the kind of momentum of being in a big rock 'n roll band, you won't get your songs heard."

In other U2 news this week, The Edge said he doesn't know if the band's producer Brian Eno actually likes their music, and the group performed an impromptu rooftop gig in London on Friday.
