U2 guitarist The Edge has sold his favourite guitar at auction to raise money for a charity started after the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
The Gibson Les Paul was just part of various U2 memorabilia sold on the day and reached around $240,000 (£120,000). The guitar is particularly desirable for fans of the band, as The Edge has used it on every U2 tour since 1985.
Other U2 objects included a pair of sunglasses owned by front man Bono, as well as his autographed guitar which sold for $180,000 (£90,000), drummer Larry Mullen JR's tom-tom sold for $19,000 (£9,500) and Adam Clayton's bass guitar reached $22,000 (£11,000).
The grand total raised at the auction was $2.4 million (£1.2 million) and besides U2 memorabilia, a saxophone signed by Bill Clinton was sold for $54,000 (£27,000), while a pair of John Lennon's famous round blue-tinted sunglasses sold for $30,000 (£15,000).
