Suspect Named in Jam Master Jay Murder

A man has been named in connection with the murder of Run DMC rapper Jam Master Jay by US prosecutors.

Legal papers have been filed in New York, claiming Ronald Washington was the armed accomplice of a second (currently unidentified) gunman who shot the hip hop star. However, he has denied any involvement and he has not been charged.

The court papers claim that Washington "pointed his gun at those present in the studio, ordered them to get on the ground and provided cover for his associate to shoot and kill Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay)".

Jay was killed in 2002 in a studio in Queens, New York. Run DMC are largely credited with combining rock and rap, as well as introducing rap into the mainstream - particularly with their classic albums Raising Hell and Tougher Than Leather.
