Bronx rapper Remy Ma (real name Remy Smith) has been found guilty of assault today (March 27th) and could face up to 25 years in prison.
The jury at the Manhattan Supreme Court found the hip-hop star, who has worked with names like Eminem and Busta Rhymes in the past, guilty on four charges - two counts of first-degree assault, attempted coercion and criminal possession of a weapon.
Remy Ma has been on trial since March 10th over an incident stemming back to July 2007, when she was accused of shooting her long-term friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph, who owed her $3000.
After the shooting, Barnes-Joseph spent three weeks in hospital and had three separate counts of surgery.
Smith's attorney claimed the rapper shot her friend by accident, however, assistant Manhattan District Attorney Michael McIntosh, argued that Remy took "an illegal .45-caliber automatic gun" into the victim's car, loaded with hollow-point bullets.
''She took every step you had to take to shoot somebody" added the prosecutor.
