Oasis China Gigs 'Cancelled Due To Recession'

A promoter of two cancelled Oasis concerts in China has denied the shows were axed at the request of the government and instead blamed the recession.

Earlier this week, reports said dates in Beijing and Shanghai next month, were pulled as the band were deemed "unsuitable" to perform - because Noel Gallagher performed at a Free Tibet concert in New York in 1997.

A spokesman from the gig promoters Beijing All Culture Communication Co Ltd, dismissed these rumours, telling Reuters that economic downturn was to blame.

"I have no money. It's normal in an environment of economic crisis. It has nothing to do at all with the Tibet problem." The spokesman is quoted as saying.
