A new website has launched which will act as a download store for unsigned bands.
Indie Store will allows bands and musicians to have their own pages on the site, where they can charge for the downloading of their tracks.
The sales will also count towards the Download charts, meaning bands without a deal could well gain a high placement. However, without physical releases in the shops, any unsigned acts will not be eligible for the UK charts proper.
Indie Store was inspired by the success of MySpace, but unlike that free service, the new download site will allow groups to benefit from charging for the privilege of hearing their music.
Artists will earn 80% of sales.
