MP Slams BBC For Their U2 Coverage

The BBC have been criticised by a conservative MP, for their publicity of the new U2 album 'No Line On The Horizon'.

The Irish rockers have featured heavily on various BBC programmes under the slogan "U2=BBC", including appearances on The Culture Show and Zane Lowe.

As previously reported, U2 will also preview songs from the LP live on Jo Whiley's Live Lounge and be interviewed on Chris Evans' show later this month (February 27). A special section of the BBC website has also been set-up, offering tickets and a link to their official site.

Now MP Nigel Evans (from the culture, media and sport select committee) has hit out at the heavy campaign, saying: "Why should licence fee-payers shoulder the cost of U2's publicity?" Evans also added that the coverage is "the sort of publicity money can't buy", reports the Daily Mail.

A BBC spokesman responded by saying: "We take extreme care in making fair decisions about how we make popular artists accessible to our audiences, especially when the timing is around the release of a new album/book/film."

'No Line On The Horizon' is released on March 2
