Morrissey had made a donation of £20,000 to Salford Lads Club - the infamous venue which appeared on the inside cover of The Queen Is Dead, the 1986 album by his former band The Smiths.
The club owners say the venue is in need of essential maintenance priced at £1 million and are pleading for donations.
Apparently Morrissey wanted to make a secret donation, but owners felt it would give their campaign more attention and a larger profile if the singer's name was associated with it.
The campaign is currently at the £330,000 mark.
