Leonard Cohen is to receive £1 million in song royalties, after his popular song 'Hallelujah' was used extensively during X Factor and is also the official winner's single.
During the final, JLS and winner Alexandra Burke performed the classic track a total of three times. The single is also in shops now as a CD, or available digitally via download stores.
Talking to The Times, Sony/ATV chief executive Marty Bandier, spoke about the high costs of using the song on the show:
"We get a host of requests from films and television to use it, but 'Hallelujah' is recognised as one of the greatest songs ever, so it demands a high fee."
