Kaiser Chiefs Keyboard Player Gets Emergency Surgery In Brazil

Nick Baines - keyboard player with the Kaiser Chiefs - had to cancel a performance with the rest of the band, as he had to have emergency surgery.

Baines was diagnosed with appendicitis while the band were doing promotion in Brazil and had to have his appendix removed.

The operation didn't stop the rest of the Kaisers from fulfilling their commitments though - which included an appearance on Jay Leno's Tonight Show.

The Chiefs have since issued a statement reassuring fans that Baines is recovering: "We've made it to L.A., but unfortunately we're a man down. We didn't want to make a drama out of it so we kept this quiet until now."

"Peanut [Nick Baines' nickname] had to have an operation to remove his appendix on Thursday, so he's been in a hospital in Brazil for a few days."

"The operation was a success, he's ok, and managed to play with us at Planeta Terra in Brazil on Saturday night, but he's unable to fly to the USA until Wednesday."
