Joaquin Phoenix Rap Career Is "Serious" Says His Rep

A publicist for Joaquin Phoenix has insisted the actor's hip-hop career is not an elaborate hoax.

After a messy first live performance earlier this month, which saw Phoenix stumble his lyrics and fall off the stage, rumors hit the internet that the whole "rap" move was nothing more than a joke, or art project for the retired actor.

Now Joaquin's representive Susan Patricola tells MTV News in a statement, that the music project is very serious:

"The transition from one career to another is never seamless. It should come as no surprise to anyone that Joaquin came from a musical family, in addition to winning a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Johnny Cash.

"He intends on exploring his musical interests despite speculative, negative or positive reactions."

Phoenix is said to be working with Sean 'Diddy' Combs on his first rap album.
