Iggy Pop has gone jazz on his new album 'Preliminaires', which is based on the novel 'La Possibilité D'une Ile' by French author Michel Houellebecq.
The punk legend revealed his new project plans in a video message, during which he explained his decision to change direction.
"It's a quieter album with some jazz overtones," Iggy Pop said. "That's because at one point I just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars, banging out crappy music. And I was starting to listen to a lot of New Orleans-era Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton type of jazz."
Full details, including a release date, are still unknown. But The Stooges frontman did explain that one song - 'Les Feuilles Mortes' - is sung in French.
Another track called 'King Of The Dogs' is apparently about "how cool it is to be a dog and how much it beats human life", says Pop.
