Girl Raped During Leeds Festival Performance

According to The Sun newspaper, a 27 year old girl was raped at this weekend's Leeds Festival at Banham Park, around the time indie favourites Arctic Monkeys were performing.

The reports suggest the victim was seized as she walked towards toilets on Sunday 27th August and although several fellow festival goers saw the incident, police believed the couple were in fact play-fighting.

The attacker dragged the girl behind the toilet block near to a Mexican food store, where the terrible ordeal then took place. The attacker is also described as "in his 20s, 6ft with dark hair and wearing a dark overcoat and white T-shirt."

The paper also suggests that the girl saw up to four other men watching, but they walked off. Police would now like to speak to these witnesses as they may have important evidence.

Speaking about the witnesses, police have said: "They were in no way involved and were simply unwitting witnesses. But they could have important evidence for us."

"The music was very loud and there was a lot of yelling and screaming from people at the festival. We think they just dismissed it as a courting couple involved in horseplay.

"They wouldn't have realised it was serious sexual assault. It was either whilst The Arctic Monkeys were on stage or soon after."
