The new Flaming Lips album is called 'Embryonic' and will be a two-disc set, the band have announced.
The double release is the band's 12th studio album and is coming in September, three years after their acclaimed 2006 offering 'At War With The Mystics'.
Discussing the recording sessions, frontman Wayne Coyne tells BBC 6 Music: "We went into it thinking 'are we going to make a double album?' but it's harder than you would think."
The group have yet to finalise a tracklisting - let alone name all of the songs - and Coyne added that it has taken a long time to choose which tracks will be included.
His reason? "Because we want to go in so many strange directions and sometimes we're unfocused and sometimes we're just so wishy washy."
"There's only a couple of things we recorded that we probably won't use and everything else I think we're going to use."
