Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan has undergone surgery to have a cancerous tumour removed from his bladder.
The singer was recently admitted to hospital in Athens, Greece, forcing several European gigs to be cancelled altogether or postponed (see the newly announced tour amendments here).
Gahan was diagnosed with a severe bout of gastroenteritis, but according to a statement posted on the Depeche Mode website, "while in hospital, further medical tests revealed a low-grade malignant tumour in Dave's bladder, which has since been successfully removed."
"At doctors' orders Dave Gahan must take a break until June 8th, to ensure that he makes a full recovery. The Leipzig show on June 8th will be the first concert following Dave's recovery."
