Britney Spears will not be performing at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on September 7, despite claims the singer could appear at the event.
The hitmaker's manager Larry Rudolph has now played down reports, confirming Spears will not be performing live.
LA radio host and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, says Rudolph has confirmed Britney "is in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and was never supposed to perform at that show."
Rudolph is also quoted as saying: "Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I'm telling you officially and unequivocally."
Britney will however, be appearing at the VMAs in one form - in a promotional video alongside host Russell Brand, LL Cool J and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.
