Dr. Dre's 'Beats by Dre' Headphones Out Today

If you want your music to sound the way Dr. Dre hears it then you'll be pleased to know that his "Beats by Dre" headphones have hit the stores today.

When he's not been working on his upcoming 'Detox' album, Dre has spent the last two years working with Interscope Geffen A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine and Monster Cable to create high-end earphones that replicate how music sounds in his studio.

The 'phones feature powered amplification and offer deep bass, extreme clarity and active noise canceling. They're described as "the most advanced headphones ever developed."

According to Iovine, "If people think they like their music on those little ear buds or computer speakers, they'll experience it on a whole different plane."

"They definitely get across what my music should sound like," said Dre.

According to Kevin Lee of Monster, it was almost impossible to get the perfect sound quality exactly how they wanted. They went through around 150 prototypes before Dr. Dre decided they were just right. Dre and Iovine also compared over 20 different designs for the headphones before deciding on the exact style.

The headphones are definitely not just some celebrity-endorsed standard product though. Iovine said: "This is different from making perfume and having some rock star put her name on it. We're pretty finicky guys. Those headphones sound better than every pair made."

A whole range of stars and producers tried the headphones and loved them, including Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Gwen Stefani, Mary J. Blige and many others.

"People in the studio took them home to listen to music they've been working on, and the sound was so different, they wanted to start over," said Dre.

Retailing at $350, 'Beats by Dre' can be bought from Apple, the beatsbydre.com website and Best Buy.
