Lil Wayne Signs Digital Tha Carter III Deal

Lil Wayne has partnered with digital distribution company Musicane to sell download copies of his new album 'Tha Carter III'.

The deal will see the long-awaited record being sold via the rapper's website, as well as social networking pages. A special online player will offer DRM-free MP3s of all the individual songs on 'Tha Carter III', as well as the album in its entirety.

The news comes shortly after the release leaked online over a week ago, which has escalated due to Lil Wayne slamming mixtape DJs for using his music without seeking his approval. This led to several DJs publically linking to leaked copies of the album.

Speaking of the deal, Musicane's president and COO, Vikramaditya Jain, says: "Lil Wayne is a natural fit to help further this movement not just because of his stature in the music world but more for his bold attitude toward change."

"He knows that the new model for the flow of music distribution is rooted in empowering the fans, not the traditional gate keepers that tend to slow everything down."
