Kanye West, Common & More Sued For Jazz Sample

Kanye West and Common are among rappers being sued by the daughter of late jazz musician Joe Farrell, over claims they have used samples of his work without obtaining approval.

Also named in the suit are Method Man and Redman, as well as their record labels Island Def Jam Music Group and its label Roc-A-Fella Records, Universal Music Group, its labels Interscope Records, Geffen Records and A&M Records and its parent company Vivendi.

The lawsuit, filed by Kathleen Firrantello in the US District Court in New York, says all of the names involved sampled the 1974 song 'Upon This Rock'. Firrantello is seeking damages of no less than $3 million and wants future sales stopped.

The songs accused of theft are: Kanye West - 'Gone', Common - 'Chi-City' and Method Man and Redman's 'Run 4 Cover'.
