The Fratellis Back Appeal For New Teenage Cancer Unit

The Fratellis are asking Scots to donate to a new teenage cancer ward in Glasgow.

Two members of the band - Barry and John - visited the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre recently, meeting patients and signing CDs.

The Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) currently has a unit there caring for 16-24 year-olds, but are now hoping to open a centre for younger patients - aged between 13-16.

The Trust needs £350,000 if the proposed six bed unit is to open at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Yorkhill in 2009.

Fratellis bassits Barry said: "It's such fantastic news that a second Teenage Cancer Trust unit is planned for Glasgow, but we really need to see the money start rolling in. The charity needs £350,000 to go ahead with their plans, all of which they have to raise in Scotland."

Speaking of their visit to the centre, Barry added: "We've seen first hand the difference that a Teenage Cancer Trust unit makes to the lives of teenagers and young people - the facilities on offer are amazing."

"Every young person with cancer in Scotland should have access to a unit, so I, and the rest of the band, would like to ask everyone to put their hands in their pockets and get involved. Every penny counts."
