Chris Martin has stepped forward and defended Jay-Z's headlining slot at the Glastonbury Festival, following much criticism that the US hip-hop star will be topping the main stage.
The Coldplay singer tells Jo Whiley, "Why would we need to (play Glastonbury), considering the best musician on the planet is headlining? I find it pretty embarrassing, all the palaver."
"We recently came back to England to find all this all this hoo-hah, grandpas complaining about things they don't know about."
"Coldplay not playing and Jay-Z playing is exactly what needs to happen for the world. He's the best rapper in the world."
Coldplay themselves are currently in the news today, as the band are giving away their new single 'Violet Hill' as a free download for the next week.
The band have also just confirmed the tracklisting for their next studio album 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends', which is due for release on June 12th.
