The Rolling Stones Blackpool Ban Is Lifted

A "lifetime ban" put on The Rolling Stones that prevented the band from ever playing in Blackpool, has finally been lifted after 44 years.

The Stones were banished from the popular seaside resort, after a show at the Blackpool Empress Balloom in 1964 led to a riot.

After the gig ended, fans smashed crystal chandeliers, tore seats and even smashed-up a Steinway grand piano. It didn't end there either - bottles and stones were thrown, and fifty members of the audience were later treated in hospital.

Now Blackpool council leader Peter Callow says: "We are writing to the group to say the ban has been lifted and they are welcome to play here again".

In other news, The Rolling Stones are soon to release next album Shine A Light on 7th April 2008.
