L.A. Times Apologize To Diddy Over Tupac Claims

The Los Angeles Times has printed an apology to Diddy yesterday (March 26th), following false claims relating to the shooting of late rapper Tupac Shakur.

The paper was hit with criticism earlier in the month, after it emerged that documents journalist Chuck Philips used in his report were in fact fraudulent. The article in question linked Diddy to a failed attack on Tupac two years prior to his death.

Suspicion arose that the documents were fake for a number of reasons: there were several typographical errors and unusual acronyms that the FBI would not normally use, and the documents were also made using a typewriter - which the FBI have not used for some time.

Chuck Philips admitted his mistake and issued the following message: "In relying on documents that I now believe were fake, I failed to do my job."

LA Times editor Russ Stanton, added said: "We published this story with the sincere belief that the documents were genuine, but our good intentions are beside the point."
