Radiohead Address Their Carbon Footprint

Radiohead front man Thom Yorke has spoken out about the band's tour this Summer and their plans to make the jaunt as carbon-friendly as possible - something the singer first mentioned back in October.

Talking yesterday (January 2nd) to Radio 4's Today programme, Yorke said: "[The band] had one of those carbon footprints done and there's a few things we can change. I guess it's obvious - it's the mass of people travelling to one place. That's the really big impact overall."

Yorke continued the band have considered alternatives to help reduce their impact: "Can we go around by ship? Yes, technically speaking, if we were in the freight containers and were prepared to be on the sea for two weeks, that would be more ecologically sound. But if you were to go on the Queen Mary for example, that's actually worse because they go so fast because they're so heavy."

It now seems Radiohead will be hitting the road in the tour bus instead of the usual rock star private jet travel: "It is quite extraordinary, the rock 'n' roll business. At this stage the normal protocol would be to fly in/fly out every night, so to choose to bumble about on a bus is going to be interesting."

Radiohead's In Rainbows album was released on Monday and looks set to enter the UK charts at the Number 1 position.
