Even though Dr Dre is still busy working on the hugely awaited Detox album (hurry up!), he's still found time to launch his own headphone range in conjunction with Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine and Monster Cable Products.
The "Beats by Dr. Dre" headphones were conceived by Dr Dre and mutually designed over a two year period with Jimmy Iovine and Monster's sound engineers.
Retailing at $399.99 (about £200), the headphones have been designed to accurately replicate certain frequencies such as low end bass - while still maintaining a natural sound.
Dre says of the project, "When I'm making a track I'm trying to capture the sound that makes me go 'now that's the s**t!' And I want that reaction from everybody who hears it."
"I spend a lot of time in the studio listening to my music through headphones…with 'Beats,' people are finally going to hear it the way they should: the way I do." He continued.
Iovine, who also happens to be a previous recording studio engineer and producer for the likes of Patti Smith, Tommy Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Pretenders and U2, added:
"Dre and I have been developing these headphones for a while and in Monster we found a partner that could work with us to crystallize his vision and develop them to the quality level he expects."
"'Beats by Dr. Dre' is yet another example of Interscope's commitment to working together with its artists in developing new avenues to experience music." Iovine concluded.
