Cat Power: On The Verge Of Suicide

Cat Power has revealed she was on the verge of suicide in a personal interview with the New York Times.

The songwriter, whose real name is Chan Marshal, told the publication: "I was looking at death. I wanted to die...I asked God, I said, 'I'm tired, I can't do this'. I was asking him to just take me."

She added, "Even playing all my shows I was always intoxicated, always kind of not there, which led to the depression. It was more about the uncomfortableness with just being in my own skin, and that's why the alcohol was always with me."

Her ill-health resulted in Marshal pulling her US and UK shows this Summer. In other news, Cat Power appears on the new Ensemble single Disown, Delete as well as the self-titled Ensemble album.
