Popular video sharing site YouTube and Warner Music (the World's fourth largest record company) have teamed up and will now distribute legal music videos on the site. Both companies signed a deal yesterday, Sunday 17th September 2006.
Previously, many music videos were uploaded by members of the site without permission of the copyright holders. This new deal however, will mean YouTube will not only host videos by bands on the Warners label, but will also share behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.
Reports also say that users of YouTube will be able to incorporate music from the Warner Music catalogue into the home-made videos that they uploaded themselves.
Revenue generated from the Warner affiliated content will be shared between the two companies.
YouTube currently has over 100 million video views per day, while Warner Music owns music by such big names as Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
