Brooklyn-born rapper and actor Mos Def is to appear in a new comedy film called Be Kind Rewind.
He will be playing the role of a video shop employee who finds all the shop's video tapes erased due to a customer whose brain has become magnetised while attempting to sabotage a local power station.
In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films, which include Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Robocop.
Filming begins next month, and Mos Def will be joining an all-star cast including Jack Black, Mia Farrow, Danny Glover and Melonie Diaz.
Be Kind Rewind is scheduled for release in 2007.
