Cuckundoo Records
Cuckundoo Records is a label that wants to release passionate music from the more experimental yet accessible sides of music.
Inspired by not only the music itself, but also the Canadian collectives such as the Constellation label, Broken Social Scene/Do Make Say Think and Arcade Fire, plus the recent Leeds scene (Dance to the Radio, Art Goes Pop, Engine Room, Gizeh, Bad Sneakers...), by comedy (Chris Morris, Mighty Boosh (where Cuckundoo comes from!), Look Around You), by film (directors Linklater, Coen brothers, Leone, Gondry, Kaufman, Jeunet...), not to mention all of the other day-to-day occurrences that pass by.
Cuckundoo Records was formed by Ben Winbolt-Lewis, in Leeds, in 2006 and was later joined by Manchester-based old schoolfriend Andy Jones.
The first release on Cuckundoo was the 7", Yuki/Forever The Optimist (read the review), by Leeds-based post-rockers Vessels, with a second single, Two Words & A Gesture due out late Summer 2007 before the band record their debut album for a 2008 release. Also on Cuckundoo is Escalade, Tokyo-based American songwriter Greg Sullivan, whose sound is not a million miles away from Sea & Cake, Sonic Youth or the early Too Pure releases.
