Hello guys, how's everything going?
Very good thankyou : )
You've recently released a remix collection on your own Multiplex label (the With Hands and Feet EP), what made you set up your own label and do things for yourself?
Well originally we had a lot of positive feedback from our friends about that track 'With Hands And Feet', but felt it would be out of place on our new album. We wanted to release something ourselves so it seemed to be the obvious choice for an EP including remixes using the strength of indentity of the 'With Hands And Feet' track. And we had complete control of artwork, mastering which was refreshing.
Will this new label purely be for your own Multiplex releases, or will you release the work of other artists too? If so, who or what have you got planned for the future?
We're not sure yet, maybe we will do a compilation for the next release of our favourite idm / electro artists...
There's also a lot of impressive names on board, including remixes by Proem, Shitmat and Digitonal - how did they all come about, are you big fans of their work?
Basically, yes. We are fans / friends even of the artists involved with 'The Hands and Feet' CD. They are all very original and imaginative people. This CD is a symbiotic cycle; they help us, we help them.
'With Hands And Feet' has been recieved so well within the music press, there's not a single bad word to be said. Has the reaction of the EP been pleasing so far?
Very much so, once the CD goes out into the media anything can happen. We have been blessed so far.
The EP only contained one new track from yourselves, so when can we expect to hear a new full length long-player?
We have about 10 new tracks we like, of which about 5 will make it to the new album, we need about another 5 or so solid tracks before the new album will be ready. But it will be the best thing we have put out so far! : )
Most kids pick up guitars and form bad punk bands when they are younger, what made you get into sequencers and start making electronica?
Well, I think Kraftwerk have a lot to do with it ... I remember seeing the 'Computer World' LP; the artwork just looked so odd / good compared to other records at the time...(that mystique) and then we discovered more about Kraftwerk through their interviews etc... and just liked their whole concept...of 'making some music and sending the tapes to your friends'. We also like the machines with emotions concept... and i think synthesizers, computers, sampling etc.. can give you more possibilities with sound.
So which contemporary artists are you big fans of?
Zug Island, Kit Clayton, Maurizio, Radioactive Man, J Saul Kane, Mr. Projectile, Bjork, Arovane, Richard H Kirk, Richard James...
Interesting..but what if you were romancing a lady friend, what songs would you choose to play to set the mood?
Something slow and soulful...yeah, baby!
Is the future of music through the distribution of mp3's or do you think they'll always be a market for vinyl and CD's?
I think there will always be that specialist market for vinyl, CD's and good artwork but, maybe in the mainstream things will go MP3 and as long as there are record companies there will be money to be made.
Do you ever take your music to a live environment, if so how does this differ from a studio setting and what could we expect?
Yes, we do a few shows - we have been lucky enough to play in Belgium, Spain, Holland, Scotland...we feel, it's harder to put electronic music in a live environment we think as the music is more mental than physical...but, we try to use visuals / video projections in our shows when possible. We usually take a laptop to play the main parts of the tracks and then improvise live on top adding samples, live vocals, fx, theremin and sync up the odd analog synthesizer ...the next show is in Brighton September 9th with Isan - then we are set to play in Dublin in October which we are really excited about!
Good luck with those shows! But all things aside, here's an important question everyone wants to know - now it's the summer season, what's more annoying : spiders or wasps? Considering spiders have eight legs and are pure evil...but wasps sting you for no reason?
That's a toughy... I think spiders are more annoying as wasps make a fatter sound!
There you go then, you've just thought of something to sample on the new album! But anyway, a big thankyou for you both taking the time to talk to us, we look forward to any new material you have planned!
THANK YOU!! - Christian and Roland - Multiplex : )
