Kid Acne

Fresh off a full length UK tour and with the release of his highly anticipated second album out this week, we got the chance to interview the multi-talented Kid Acne about what floats his boat.

'Council Pop' is out now on Invisible Spies.

Howdy Kid, how are tricks?

All good thanks. Just working on the promotion for this album, whacking up
stickers, doing interviews and that. Feedback has been ace man. People seem
to like this album. I want to get back to painting some walls mind. It's all
good though. Have a couple of hook up's for some interesting collaborations
for the next few tracks so that'll be cool.

You happy with the new album?

Yeah man, kin well chuffed. Council Pop has been in me for a long time now,
it's been important to get this guff off my chest for final. I got to represent for all my home boys swimming in the quarry in their undies to save money for a pack of smokes rather then paying to go to the swimming pool eh? It's all love where I'm from.

Illustrator, record label boss, mc, graffiti artist, DJ... what's next on the agenda?

I just like making stuff that's all. I don't feel right unless I'm working on a project or two. I feel like i'm bottling things up else. I'm working on a couple of exhibitions, some skateboards, the next single, some T-shirts etc. We are hoping to get Zebra Face animated and also extend the Invisible Spies label roster. They are kind of the main plans, it's just down to time and money though. It's all about the paper chase innit?

Will the documentary you were making about the graffiti scene ever see the light of day?

Yeah of course, just I need to get a secretary to handle all the day to day
admin first. Also it's an excuse for an office party at Crimbo so I get done
for goosin' her ass over the photocopier. The film is called 'Hero One' by the way. It's just lying dormant right now, just a pile of super 8 reels. I plan to work on it when I get a bit of time off. It's cool though, it'll be
like a retrospective of these artists: Req, Part 2, Carl 1.2.3, She One
etc...

Done any interesting shows / exhibitions lately?

Just got back from a show I hung in Manchester called 'Blood & Sand'. It's
over 200 illustrations on 7" pizza boxes in pen and ink. All the characters
are part of my new Fantasy Art angle, this is like the portrait gallery of
the Valhalla Souls or some shit. There are plans for more shows up here and
in London too. We have a show called Hicks down our local pub right now too.
I just had a show in Grenoble also, so yeah things is all nice.

You and Req recently went on tour, how was it?

Yo the tour was cool. We got driven around in an armoured car by a couple of
girls and that, stayed in some nice posh country manor and went badger watching with the game keeper. It weren't that rock and roll mind, dudes on the tour got history yo and now wasn't the time to go boozing and jacking up with the fans backstage. It was real dignified, smoking jackets and travel scrabble this time. Got my fucking records nicked in Glasgow though cos the tour manager never got the security to lock up the store room where we were told to keep our stuff 'safe' for a while! Two radgies rushed that shit out the back door. Damn yo. I'm gutted.

What records you been listening to lately?

None of that lot, lost my ragga 7"s and everything...scooby doo!

Word.
