The Libertines are no longer a band.

The were formed through the songwriting duo of Carl Barat and Pete Doherty, and joined by John Hassall and Gary Powell.

They released their debut single What A Waster in 2002 plus their first album Up The Bracker. The band's music drew comparisons to everyone from The Clash to The Jam.

Their second self-titled album was their last and ironically, their best received, hitting the number 1 album spot in the UK.

In 2004, Pete Doherty was thrown out of the band due to an ongoing battle with drugs, he then went on to form Babyshambles. The Libertines then split for good at the close of 2004.

Bassist John Hassall can be heard making music in his new band, Yeti. While Carl Barat and Gary Powell went on to form the successful indie band, Dirty Pretty Things.
