James Rutledge is raised in Derbyshire. He goes to Oxford to study English. He starts playing guitar in a band with two old school friends. He plays gigs alongside Badly Drawn Boy, ESG, Fridge and so on.
During a summer holiday James records an EP by himself at home, while his parents have church meetings downstairs. James decides to release his solo music under the name Pedro. David Cooper hears it and sets up the Melodic label out of Manchester to release his music. James' music is praised by lots of musicians and journalists. It influences some other people's music. James finishes university and goes to live in Yorkshire for two years.
He records another EP, a film soundtrack, and a collaboration with Kathryn Williams. James' guitar playing features on some new Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine) material. James moves to London and releases his first Pedro album. It gets great reviews. James' music appears on labels like Domino, Moshi Moshi and Warp. One of the people that James plays music with goes missing and dies whilst on holiday. James stops playing in a band. James doesn't make any music for two years.
Prefuse 73, Dangermouse, Four Tet, Cherrystones and Koushik remix James' music for the Fear & Resilience remix project. James' music appears on some adverts. James writes some articles for some newspapers. Melodic releases the Early Pedro compilation. James floats onto Prefuse 73's Surrounded By Silence LP. US label Mush (cLOUDDEAD, Boom Bip et al) plans to release James' back catalogue in the US.
James records a new album, You, Me & Everyone. James hopes people like it.
