Nas is the alias of popular rapper Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, who was born in Brooklyn, New York but moved to the notorious area of Queensbridge. He is also the son of jazz trumpeter Olu Dara.
His first album was the critically acclaimed Illmatic in 1994, which is often seen as one of greatest hip hop albums ever. Subsequent releases however, never matched the praise of his first offering.
During 2000-2001, Nas found himself in the middle of a well publicised war of words with fellow rap giant Jay-Z.
