Since former member Gyda Valtysdottir left the band in September 2002 to concentrate on her classical cello studies, Mum now revolves around the core trio of Icelander's Gunnar Orn Tynes, Orvar Thoreyjarson Smarason and Kristin Anna Valtysdottir. For touring / recording this line-up is expanded to include Olof Arnalds (violin / viola / guitar / vocals), Samuli Kosminen (drums / percussion) and Eirikur Orri Olafsson (trumpet / pianette / moog / whistling), as well as occassional contribution's from Mice Parade's Adam Pierce (drums / chinese harp).

Based between Reykjavik and Berlin, since their foundation in 1998, Mum have forged a gorgeously warm, rich and melodic take on electronica, imprinting it with their own unique sound / character. What sets the band apart from so many of their peers is both their strong, melodic vocals, and warm, bold integration of both analogue and digital technologies. Playing an assortment of instruments alongside some crisply programmed electronic washes, beats and bleeps, the band's musical talent is immediately audible.

They have also composed music for a radio play on Icelandic National radio called 'Svefnhjolid' (Sleeping Wheel) by Gyrdir Eliasson, one of the bands favourite authors and poets. Many people in Iceland say the can hear his writing within the bands music. But then you can hear lots of things within their music if you listen closely.
