His real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr and he was born in 1972 in Brooklyn, New York.

According to reports, the name Busta Rhymes was given to him by legendary Public Enemy member Chuck D, named after the American football player George 'Buster' Rhymes.

His first recorded output came in 1991 as a member of the hip hop group Leaders Of The New School.

After they split in 1993, Rhymes went on to form his own career as a solo musician, delivering the 1996 acclaimed album The Coming.
